Man, girl rescued from raging river in Iao Valley amid flash flooding on Maui

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) – Maui fire crews rescued a girl who was stranded and a man who was swept away in a raging river in Iao Valley on Sunday amid torrential rains and flooding over the weekend.
Just before 2 p.m., the Maui Fire Department responded to reports of a man who was swept away in rapidly rising waters.
A second person, a girl, was also later reported stranded in a different location, MFD said.
Fire crews were able to airlift the man, while a firefighter crossed the water to bring the girl back to safety.
No injuries were reported.
The rescue came during flash flooding across the state, including on Maui. Some areas saw nearly 5 inches of rain in just a few hours Saturday morning.
